Warforged (My Dearest Clarabelle)

During the war for secession, the south created the Warforged to be the perfect soldiers. They were to be autonomous but mindlessly loyal, resilient but ultimately disposable, and in the beginning they were just that. Quickly, however, the Warforged began to display unique personalities and desires of their own. These anomalies worried the confederate higher ups but it wasn't philosophy that moved them to order the entire race decommissioned, it was economics. The northern tactic of "total war" left the south struggling to maintain the resources to keep their soldiers supplied and it was decided that the raw materials needed to create and maintain the Warforged could be best spent elsewhere. The Confederate generals were ordered to scrap any Warforged soldiers they had under their command. Hundreds of Warforged died caught between two factions that wanted them dead, until president Abraham Lincoln offered them amnesty and citizenship in exchange for service in the Union Army. Today Warforged form the backbone of what some are calling the dawn of the "Industrial Revolution" and have made America their home.
