Versura is a homebrew world intended mainly for playing under D&D 4th Edition. The world is made up of the five elements fire, earth, metal, water and wood, i.e. the five elements of Chinese Philosophy, but without taking a distinct Chinese or Asian flavor. In fact, it is more inspired by computer games like Might & Magic 2, Mystic Quest and Lords of Magic which feature worlds in which certain parts are dominated by one element.

The following pages contain the details of the setting and information for players that want to play Versurian characters.

The World of Versura

Versura is created from the interplay of the five elements wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. It is commonly assumed that the world is divided among five domains and that one of the elements is more dominant than the others in each of them. Only in the center of Versura, they are in perfect balance and have created a fertile and rich land.

The elements and the number five play a big role in the spirituality of all Versurian races to the point that numerology is applied even to history. Five years form a pentade, each year dominated by one of the elements in turn. Five pentades, or twenty-five years, are a generation. Five generations, or one hundred and twenty-five years are called a Great Century and five of them make up one Age, the time between the cataclysms, catastrophic times of trouble and strife, each bringing lasting changes to Versura.

While these arcane teachings are irrelevant to the Versurians' everyday life, the priests, sages, and mystics study them. They know that the next cataclysm is approaching and are starting to make preparations. It is a time of uncertainty and of danger - a time that calls for heroes.
