UFOpedia/X-Com Organizations
The following wiki is special access, controlled information for the benefit of members of Field Team US/SAM/5 of X-Com International, and all specially cleared subsidiaries and sub-contractors, as well as Tier I funding governments. All information should be treated as classified and not for distribution unless given specific written permission from X-Com Headquarters.

Combat Teams
X-Com combat teams are the bulk of the the combat force. They are the primary assets used for accomplishing missions, both offensive and defensive. There are two broad categories of combat teams: Conventional and Special Applications and Missions (SAM).
Conventional Teams
There are 200 X-Com combat teams worldwide. Each team contains between 8 and 15 soldiers, with 12 being the average size. On any given day there are approximately 2400 combat personnel on the payroll, not including combat personnel not assigned directly to a team such as OIC’s and training officers.
How many combat teams are present in a given country is a function of contract size with X-Com. Tier I funding governments are guaranteed personnel on scene within three hours of a UFO event, so large Tier I nations like the US and Canada have a large number of distributed teams.

Special Applications and Missions (SAM) Teams
The exact amount how many X-Com teams are designated SAM teams is controlled information. Even members of a SAM team may not know how many others like them there are. These teams generally have an OIC who directly controls their operations based on support requests from conventional teams or orders from X-Com Operations Headquarters in DC.
SAM teams can be general purpose, and used for missions that require a high degree of success, or they can specialize in a specific function or mission set.

Squadrons
Air assets are X-Com's first line of defense against alien incursions, but unfortunately they are very expensive. Since international law, and standards of conduct, prevent the company from owning military aircraft, they are forced to lease their fighters and air transports. While most Western nations were more then willing to help offset the cost of maintaining their fleets by renting them out, this still left X-Com with only a little over 250 aircraft almost split evenly between fighters and transports. The company is contractually obligated to focus their assets on the Tier I and Tier II funding nations, which is why Tier III parties to the X-Com contract are required to provide X-Com forces air transport within their borders.
Air Superiority Squadrons
The workhorse of most modern air forces in the world is the F-35 Lightning II, or Joint Strike Fighter. Since it was common around the world, and rather capable, most of the top tier nations were willing to lease them out of their custody. So far the aircraft have performed admirably against small and medium UFO's, but have not had the same level of success against larger targets. X-Com has committed a good deal of resources to developing more state-of-the-art airframes in concert with some of their funding partners.

Four fighters were scrambled to intercept the UFO responsible for the Battle of Memphis, but were unable to disable or destroy it. Captain Michael "Shroom" Sanderson and Lieutenant Phillip "Wetter" Phelps were killed when the UFO returned fire. The remaining two airframes were ordered to disengage, and they returned to base safely. X-Com has yet to replace the lost aircraft or pilots.
Aircraft from the Lucky Bastards were part of the initial air strikes of Operation ROLL TIDE.

MAJ Bran "Tex" Blaschke
Composition: 6 F-35C's , 8 Pilots

Air Mobility Squadrons
Surprisingly, X-Com had a harder time leasing the V-22 Osprey then acquiring the F-35. The ongoing military commitments in the Red Sea Intervention had kept the demand signal for the very effective transport aircraft consistently high. However, tightening budget constraints on NATO countries, combined with the transistion to more static military operations in the Red Sea AOR gave X-Com room to negotiate the leasing of a little over 100 airframes from the US, UK, and Canada, the latter two having recently purchased the airframe at the start of the conflict.
Given the distributed nature of the teams that they're supposed to carry, air mobility squadrons in large countries, like the US and Canada, have a regional headquarters that oversees numerous smaller detachments (or "dets") of aircraft and pilots stationed at individual operations centers.

Other Organizations
There are numerous other X-Com organizations that are pertinent to the company's combat operations that are not combat teams or aircraft squadrons. Generally, these entities are under the control of special executives who are given nearly full control of their respective organizations. This allows compartmentalization of controlled information which makes it easier to work with funding nations who do not want certain information to be free in the international domain. It also allows the company to better control information being provided to funding nations so that it can be used as leverage during future contract negotiations..
Alien Technology Exploitation Division
The Alien Technology Exploitation Division is ostensibly a part of X-Com's Research and Development department, however it is primarily a one way relationship. Since ATED does not acknowledge what its mission is, speculation is rampant as to what they are currently working on. It is known that ATED does periodically recruit combat personnel and pilots, but the nature of their work once they are read into the division is unknown. If ATED personnel are encountered, assume whatever direction they give is coming directly from the Board of Diectors, and comply immediately.
Project PROMETHEUS ROAD
Project PROMETHEUS ROAD is the code name for X-Com's highly secretive Psionics program. Though its exact history is unknown, it is believed to have been started early in the contract's execution based on sovereign military reports of the aliens demonstrating psychic powers. Regardless of how it started, PROMETHEUS ROAD's cutting edge work eventually led to the creation of the psycho-enervation treatment (or PET). PROMETHEUS ROAD is also responsible for the training necessary to produce psionic phenomena in personnel who receive the PET.
PROMETHEUS ROAD is highly classified, and only a handful of people in the X-Com organization are even aware of its existence. It is believed that if the aliens gained knowledge of the program then it would become a high priority target, and possibly lead to an escalation of their operations. The events at ROC Enfield have validated this belief. For now, only select individuals are receiving psionic training, though the hope is that PROMETHEUS ROAD can be expanded to all qualified individuals sometime in the near future.
Project TRANQUIL STORM
Project TRANQUIL STORM is the code name for X-Com's highly secretive maritime operations program. In the early months of the alien war, X-Com realized that the high casualty rate on UFO crash missions would greatly inflate the cost of recovering alien technology. A former US Naval Officer on the Board of Directors suggested that the company could focus shooting down UFO’s over water and letting the ocean dispose of the aliens and removing the combat element from UFO salvage. TRANQUIL STORM was started as the pilot for the program, but quickly grew in scope to a full scope maritime operations capability.
Now fully operational, TRANQUIL STORM consists of the Panamanian flagged vessel Umbra Mare, owned through a dummy corporation to obscure X-Com’s involvement, and a crew of undersea salvage specialists, a maritime specialist SAM team, and a single MV-22 with crew and maintainers. TRANQUIL STORM is commanded by COL Mike Tory, a former US Navy commander and destroyer CO. Many of the precise operational details of TRANQUIL STORM are highly controlled
US Air Force TENCAP Special Applications
USAF TENCAP (or Temporary Engagement of National Capabilities) is a highly classified joint venture between the Air Force and X-Com. In exchange for sharing certain research data with the service, X-Com can request the use of Air Force capabilities that the company lacks like heavy bombers or specialized surveillance assets. There are very few Air Force personnel assigned to the program on a permanent basis. Most are read into the program and assigned temporarily to the unit on an as needed basis. It is likely that the company has similar arrangements with other US military branches, and probably with other Tier I nation militaries as well.
X-Com Forward Operational Control (FOC)
Forward Operational Control is a highly trained team consisting of the OIC's of all of X-Com's SAM teams. Before major operations this team is sent into the area for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering in order to correct and modify the initial OPLAN. This team will remain in the area and act as on site command and control (C2) for the operation as it is being conducted thus mitigating the effects of the fog of war and decreasing decision delays for emergent situations.
