The Road between worlds
One major element of the game will be the means of travel from world to world. Instead of parachronic travel which is the normal means of travel in IW games, this game will be using a ‘Dimensional Highway.’ These are paths that exist outside dimensions. The paths connect to worlds via nexus portals. The dimensional highway of this game is often called the chronobahn, but its real name is just “The Road.”
Years have passed since Infinity started to spread their influence across the multiverse. They tried to keep parachronics a secret, but slowly more groups learned of traveling across different worlds. Many found themselves dependent on technology to accomplish the world hopping, a few found other means to travel.
Parachronic devices are a recent phenomenon. Before scientists came up with the idea of traveling to alternate worlds via technological marvels, trans-world travelers managed to go from world to world using what is often called the Chronobahn. Before it gained that name, those who moved along this path called it the "Road." Those who know the road say that it touches every world. Hard to prove that since there's an infinite number of worlds.
The major part of the road, the most traveled part of the road appears as a 20th century highway. If someone were to drive off the main drag, then they find the roads change to suit the worlds they lead to. On primitive worlds and worlds where there is no signs of civilization there are only dirt roads. The roads to later times become cobblestone or stones. Lesser trod paths are likely to disappear. This process isn't well understood, but its a known possibility.
Certain people and machines are able to find where the Road is on any world. They can move to a point where they meet up with the Road. Other people are forced to rely on chance. A small portion of people accidentally stumble onto the Road and disappear from their home world.
There are many travelers along the Road. Raven Division SS troopers, Infinity cops, and Swagmen all move up and down the road. Smaller groups also roam the Road.
There are three major parts of the road. The Chronobahn, The else where, and the Interworld Highway. The Chronobahn area is the part of the Road where Infinity, the Raven SS and those associated with them have their squabbles. This part of the Road is the least used part of the Road, since most worlds in that area have access to Parachronic tech and don't use the Road as much. The Middle area is the least controlled and largest part of the road. Many people end up in this part of the Road due to its lack of conflict and the freedom it provides. At the other end of the Road is the Interworld Highway. The Road narrows down when it approaches this area. The side of the Road announces that you are entering the jurisdiction of the Department of Dimensional Travel. A group of worlds that discovered the Road banded together to regulate transworld travel as it moves by their worlds. Anyone passing the road signs indicating where the Interworld Highway (as they call it) is subject to the authority of the DDT. The DDT requires all travelers to have valid licenses for using the IH. Anyone who doesn't have valid license for the highway is subject to arrest. Also all travelers on this area of the road are subject to searches for contraband. Contraband as defined by the DDT is any 'cargo' that hasn't been registered with the DDT. DDT is notorious for being sticklers for the rules and having a bureaucracy that maintains the status quo by grinding away at problems until they're no longer problems. They have a massive amount of regulations such that most people only know sections of the codified regulations for the management of the Interworld Highway.
