Bythenian Kingdom

Overview

The Bythenian Kingdom is a large monarchy, to the east of the known world running alongside the Euras Mountains up to the barbarian lands to the north.

Geography

Bythenia is a fairly flat, fairly fertile country with the dark Asiata forest, the Euras Mountains and the Great Lake being the only really notable terrain in the country.

Government

Bythenia is led by the King who rules with absolute authority, although he has a parliament of nobles to advice him on issues.

Laws

The king issues laws by decree, although it falls to the local nobles to enforce the laws as they wish and often create their own laws on a whim if they so wish. Peasants with grievances or who fall into debt and are evicted can plead to the Kings Lesser Chamber to get their case looks at, but it rarely sides against the side with the most money.

Economy

Bythenias economy depends on trade with it's neighbours: Drakenwald, Malosis, The Theocracy of Er and Marweln. It also has several trade deals with the Merolavians through the Harvark pass. It's primary exports are timber and grain.

Military

Bythenias military has several different military sources:

  • Militia: The most common type of soldier the King and nobles can call upon their tenants to active service at any time and regularly trains them in tactics.
  • Kings Guard: The standing army of several thousand trained soldiers, guarding important location across the country and ready to fight at any time although they are usually stationed in the north to defend against barbarian attacks.
  • The Kings Beastiary: All war capable creatures in Bythenia are property of the King and many are captured and stored underneath the capital ready to be brought out and used.

Religion

The official religion of Bythenia is the Erurian pantheon. There are temples for all gods all over the country. The High Prophet is the one who traditionally crowns the new monarch at the coronation.
