Strahd Von Zarovich was a Lord Knight of England who fought in the Crusades. A harsh and unrelenting commander, like many English Lords, he considered the soldiers beneath him nothing more expendables to be wasted on the battlefield, and counted success, not on whether or not he seized the objectives, but rather by the body count.

After the Crusade, he returned to the lands granted to him by the Church, where the events listed in the various books took place.
