Rituals

The component needed for rituals where the key skill is Cosmos is Cosmic Dust, a powder made from some of the more bizarre elements found in space, exemplifying the nature of the cosmos. The component needed for rituals where the key skill is Machinery is Machine Parts, cogs and other such things.

Aether Breathing

Though your lungs are full of cosmic aether instead of air, you find yourself able to breathe perfectly well.

Level: 8 Component Cost: 135 gp
Category: Exploration Market Price: 680 gp
Time: 10 minutes Key Skill: Arcana or Cosmos
Duration: Special

When you perform this ritual, you can designate up to eight participants (including yourself if you wish) who breathe aether as easily as they breathe air. Aether Breathing doesn't change your ability to breathe air. It doesn't confer the ability to fly through the aether.

Your check result determines the duration of the effect.

Check Result Duration
14 or lower 1 hour
15–19 2 hours
20–24 4 hours
25–29 8 hours
30 or higher 24 hours

Astrolocation

The positions of the stars around you reveal your location within the cosmos.

Level: 1 Component Cost: 10 gp
Category: Divination Market Price: 50 gp
Time: 10 minutes Key Skill: Cosmos
Duration: 30 minutes

This ritual summons a shimmering, ethereal map of the cosmos in miniature, centered around your location and showing the positions of stars and planets. Touching a representation of a star or planet lets you know mentally what it is called and (in the case of planets) if it has populated cities. The map can be used to chart courses or figure out your position in space.

The ritual's effects last for 30 minutes or until it is dismissed.

Craft Citadel

The very foundations of the planets bend to your whim, and form a mighty stronghold in the heavens at your command.

Level: 30 Component Cost: 3,000,000 gp
Category: Creation Market Price: 15,000,000 gp
Time: 8 hours Key Skill: Arcana
Duration: Permanent

Successfully performing the Craft Citadel check allows you to create a hollow asteroid with formed floors and walls, and innate gravity, essentially creating a castle in space. When performed on a planet or moon, the citadel is formed in high orbit above your location. When performed on a spaceship, the citadel is formed a short distance away, so the ship ends up orbiting the citadel. When formed out free-floating in space, the citadel forms around the ritual caster.

The citadel is formed with distinctive levels and rooms, but nothing else. It is naturally lit by glowing crystals set into the ceilings. The exact size of the citadel depends on the check.

Arcana Check Result Citadel Size
24 or lower 4 levels of 20 squares
25–30 8 levels of 50 squares
31–40 15 levels of 100 squares
41 or higher 20 levels of 200 squares

Disguise Vehicle

Speak a few words, make the right signs, and the ship becomes a drifting asteroid.

Level: 12 Component Cost: 500 gp
Category: Deception Market Price: 2,600 gp
Time: 10 minutes Key Skill: Arcana
Duration: 24 hours

You create the illusion that a vehicle you are in or close to takes on the appearance of something much less conspicuous. A spaceship can become a comet, a wagon can become a roaming beast, and an airship can become a cloud. Unless a particular disguise is specified, the vehicle appears as something found naturally in the area.

Creatures that view or interact with the illusion are entitled to Insight checks to detect the fact that it is false. This check's DC equals your Arcana check result. A creature is allowed a check the first time it sees the illusion and each time it interacts with it. A creature that makes physical contact with the illusion automatically determines that it is a disguise.

The ritual caster cannot travel more than 20 squares from the disguised vehicle without the illusion fading away.

Gravity

The worldweight reasserts itself at the behest of the caster, bringing the battlefield to level.

Level: 2 Component Cost: 20 gp
Category: Exploration Market Price: 100 gp
Time: 10 minutes Key Skill: Cosmos
Duration: 1 hour

An area surrounding the ritual caster becomes affected with magically generated gravity. If performed in freefall, the area is normal gravity and orientated to the nearest flat surface. Stepping outside the zone brings a creature back into freefall, and any creature knocked out of the zone will continue to travel at that speed as per freefall rules. If performed in light gravity, the area becomes normal gravity. If performed in normal gravity, the area becomes heavy gravity. If performed in heavy gravity, everyone in the area falls prone and takes 2d10 force damage per turn until the ritual is broken.

Cosmos Check Result Area Radius
9 or lower 10 squares
10–19 20 squares
20–29 30 squares
30–39 40 squares
40 or higher 50 squares

Lifeboat

You and your companions are surrounded by a shimmering sphere of protection, while the ships explodes around you.

Level: 6 Component Cost: 200 gp
Category: Warding Market Price: 400 gp
Time: 5 minutes Key Skill: Arcana
Duration: Special

Using this ritual creates a bubble of arcane force surrounding the ritual caster and anything else within a 5 square radius. The lifeboat sphere is translucent from the inside and opaque from the outside; those inside can look out, those outside cannot look in. The walls of the lifeboat will repel any significant force and keep it airtight - the air inside the bubble will stay fresh and breathable for as long as the bubble itself endures. If a ship is suffering catastrophic breakdown, this ritual is a quick and safe way to escape certain destruction.

The ritual caster can influence the lifeboat sphere's direction, willing it one way or the other, letting it slowly travel towards (for example) a habitable planet.

The lifeboat sphere's duration of existence depends on the Arcana check when casting.

Materica

Within the iron walls of the materica, chemical elements meet and mix to birth new technology.

Level: 5 Component Cost: Special
Category: Creation Market Price: 100 gp
Time: 1 hour Key Skill: Machinery (no check)
Duration: Permanent

You create a mechanical item of your level or lower. The ritual's component cost is equal to the price of the item you create.

Reactivate

The engine coughs and sputters back into life, mystic energies holding it together when by all rights it should be scrap.

Level: 5 Component Cost: 100 gp
Category: Exploration Market Price: 500 gp
Time: 10 minutes Key Skill: Machinery
Duration: Special

This ritual allows a broken machine to work again for a short duration, after which it lapses back into a worse state than before. It will work on any kind of complex machinery, from spaceship engines to printing presses. Repeated uses of this ritual on the same machine take a -5 penalty to the Machinery check for every previous instance.

Sperry's Faithful Admiral

A crisp salute and unerring service are the hallmarks of this mystic pilot.

Level: 6 Component Cost: 200 gp
Category: Divination Market Price: 450 gp
Time: 1 hour Key Skill: Arcana
Duration: Until dismissed

You create a humanoid figure clad in white uniform that stands at the helm of the ship, operating it to your whim. It can take instructions as they are given in combat, or hold an arranged flight pattern such as an orbit or a journey. It will avoid obstacles and threats, but only apparent ones: it cannot, for instance, shake a tailing ship as it poses no direct threat. While the Admiral is summoned, no one else can operate the ship, so it must be dismissed before a living pilot can take the controls.

The Admiral can receive instructions sent via contact ring, but these orders must be given by the ritual caster or a designated crew member. The ritual caster can designate up to 10 other crew members to be able to command the Admiral.
