Marweln

Overview

Marweln is a small coastal republic, with the only offshore city on the island of Trila. The vast majority of the country is a fertile floodbasin which the locals use to their advantage.

Geography

The dominating feature of Marweln is the river Mar, which runs from Euras mountains all the way to the sea. Marwelns capital Eulana sits at the start of the rivers delta.

Government

Marweln is led by the Republican council, a collection of 30 elected officials who internally elect 2 of their number to act as heads of state, one subordinate to the other and alternating every other month. The heads of state rule for 2 years and the council is elected ever 6 years. Trila has it's own smaller council of 5 officials and 1 head, although the whole council can be overruled by the main council.

Laws

Much of the land in Marweln is privately owned and the majority of the governments income comes from property tax which is uses to pay for public services, such as aqueducts and schools.

Economy

Marwelns economy is based on three things: it's superior foodstuffs, its trade with Merolav and it's trade of captured beasts (the only country to do so).

Military

Marweln is militarily weak, with only a small standing army and no conscription laws. However the delta sands are infested with a variety of nasty creatures, making large scale troop manoeuvres almost impossible and making Marweln fairly safe from attack.

Religion

Marweln has no official state religion, but Erur is most of the populations god although there are still several alternatives around.
