Knights of the Green Tower
The Joabites come from the feral world of Joab. The planetary population is currently at pre-Industrial levels, ruled by competing hereditary families. The only official Imperial presence is the tithing centers at the capitals of the eighteen most important Kingdoms, Duchies and Baronies. These tithing centers collect the respective resources from each nation. This varies based on each agreement but always includes a staff of soldiery. The units are raised as one knight, two squires and eight footmen. These units are often deployed as is. When this occurs, the unit is called a “true feudal” regiment. At other times they are completely reformed, with the knights becoming commanding officers, the squires NCOs and the footmen the rankers. This is referred to as a “secondary feudal” organization. A “true feudal” unit fights in the same manner they do on their homeworld. They form up a solid core of knights and squires, who do much of the fighting on horseback while the footmen do much of the dying on foot. Most “true feudal” units are reequipped with flak armor, but their weaponry is up to par with Imperial gear, if less durable. “Secondary feudal” units still revolve around the fighting abilities of the nobles. Here they are normally equipped with swords and laspistols and take the fight directly to the enemy. The footmen are normally equipped with lasguns to support their betters. The life cycle of a Joabite regiment normally leads to “secondary feudal” status as attrition alters the balance of nobles and commoners. This also happens as their equipment, particularly the hardened leather of the commoners, wears out. Care must be taken when Joabite units are deployed together. Every Joabite nation is at bad terms with its neighbors and the lift off-world is a coin toss. Sometimes becoming inducted into the larger Imperium causes them to join together in a great feeling of unity. Other times the time in the void and unfamiliar worlds leads to violence. Commissars in particular must be aware of this risk. Favored Heavy Weapon: Heavy Stubber Favored Special Weapon: Flamer
Notable regiments:
- 12th “Baron Recalade” Joabite: Remained a “true feudal” unit for its entire service of thirty-eight years before the remainder was given conquest rights to a frontier world.
- 44th “Duchess Marqui” Joabite- Reequipped with chimeras from the 7864th Dolat “Screamers” Mechanized Infantry, the 44th easily transitioned to using the Chimera as a close-assault vehicle. The Munitorum now requests as many Chimeras as possible for experienced Joabite units. This request is fulfilled as often as possible.
- 87th “Duchess of the Fens” Joabite- Engaged in a vicious fight with the 85th “Duke of the Marches” Joabite after they were assigned the same Grond-class transport. Both units assigned to individual penitent crusades.
