High Gravity

Basic Rules

  • -2 penalty to speed.
  • -5 penalty to both long and short ranges on ranged weapons.
  • -10 penalty to Athletics checks.
  • Push/pull/slide decreased by 1 square.

Environmental Rules

High gravity worlds have dense, cloying atmospheres that are difficult to breathe. Without breathing apparatus, endurance checks (DC 18) must be made every day. If a character fails the check, they lose a healing surge. A character without healing surges who fails a check takes damage equal to his level.

Low Gravity

Basic Rules

  • +2 bonus to speed.
  • +5 bonus to both long and short ranges on ranged weapons.
  • +10 bonus to Athletics checks.
  • Push/pull/slide increased by 1 square.

Environmental Rules

Low gravity worlds cannot attract enough atmosphere to provide creatures with a ready supply of air. Without breathing apparatus, endurance checks (DC 18) must be made every day. If a character fails the check, they lose a healing surge. A character without healing surges who fails a check takes damage equal to his level.

No Gravity (Freefall)

Basic Rules

Pushing

In order to move anywhere in freefall, you need to be able to push yourself in that direction. If you are against a wall or similar solid object, you can make a simple move action to push yourself a number of squares up to your speed.

If you are next to an ally, you can work together to push each other apart. You push yourself and your ally a number of squares up to your speed. Your ally travels in the opposite direction to you.

If you are next to an enemy, pushing off them provokes an OA. If the OA hits, your push attempt fails.

You can also use items, such as a reaction pistol, to propel yourself.

Momentum

If a creature pushed itself 5 squares during its turn, the next turn that creature will move 5 squares in the same direction. This is called momentum, and it counts as a free action. Only if a creature hits a solid object does it stop moving in that direction. Once it hits a solid object, it can choose to stay there ("hold") or push off in another direction ("rebound").

If a creature's momentum would take it into an enemy's space, that enemy can make an OA against the creature as normal. If the OA hits, the creature's momentum drops to 0.

A target with 0 momentum ("at rest") that is subjected to forced movement will gain momentum equal to the forced movement. For example, a creature pushed 3 squares will continue to move 3 squares every turn until they stop somehow.

Forced movement can also counteract momentum. A creature with 5 momentum that is hit by a forced movement attack that pushes them 3 squares will have their momentum reduced to 2.

Creatures that are slowed do not lose momentum. The slowed condition only affects movement, not momentum.

Environmental Rules

Freefall is a disconcerting and strange experience that can nauseate even the most battle-hardened of people. For prolonged periods in freefall, endurance checks (DC 16) must be made every day. If a character fails the check, they lose a healing surge. A character without healing surges who fails a check takes damage equal to his level.
