Reina Winters.

How did you survive until now?

Before the night fell I was living with my dad in Eugene. I never really knew my mother, which I never really had the time to think about. My dad was a teacher at the local high school, a science teacher. When he fell asleep, I didn't have any older relatives or anything. I just... Kept my head down. I was pretty good with fixing things, like my dad.

Have you been a member of the group for a long time and, if not, how did you join?

One day, she came to the school. She told me she was my mother. I didn't really know what to say. She was an adult, and she wasn't asleep and... I wanted to believe it. She seemed really, distant though. She taught me a lot of things. When she told me she needed a place to gather and start gathering others, I showed her the high school. There were some people that came in and out and... That's how it all started.

How did you become an Anchor?

Well, I was here first, with my mom, so I helped her build the Creche. I know how it works, inside and out. I actually... Haven't done it before but I mean like, in theory, I could do it. Wait? You mean you... You can trust me to do it.

Why are you an Anchor?

For a few years, my dad was gone. I had nobody else. I didn't dare come out, because I knew he would never have wanted me to risk it. I'm good at smiling and looking at people in the eyes and helping them, but I don't... trust many people. When Heaven- I mean, mom, showed up... I felt for the first time like I belonged, ever since the night started. And now, I'm needed. Nobody else knows more about the Creche than me except for her.
