Frigates

TX class Frigate:

Introduced just prior to the invasion, the Tx class is intended to be the Navy’s eyes and ears in-system. With powerful engines and a strong fuel reserve, the Tx has unrivalled speed and a punch to match. In keeping with the concept of a rail boat upheld throughout the rest of the fleet, the Tx saves room otherwise needed for reactors and fills it with four engines and fuel tanks that let it range far ahead of the rest of the fleet, making up for the light-lag in sensors and giving advance warning of unexpected problems. The extra room and low power needs also let the frigates mount six 16cm railguns, as well as four 28cm tubes, giving it the firepower needed to keep it alive and in a fight. Tx class frigates have also seen heavy use as patrol vessels, using their speed, size and inexpensive design to keep growing corsair activity at bay and keep supply lanes clear.

Cruisers

Scimitar Class Cruiser:

Compared to the Sol Navy’s fondness for laser weapons and powerful reactors, the F.A.W. has developed itself as a solidly railgun based navy. In addition to this, the Aligned Navy has adopted numerous smaller missile launchers to counter the twin macro launchers of the Sol Fleet. Because of this, Federation vessels have more internal space capable of mounting larger engines. This means that, on average, a Federation ship has half again the acceleration of its Sol counterpart; although limited space means they carry about an equivalent amount of fuel and therefore have nearly identical delta-Vs. Fast, deadly and armed with far less energy intensive weapons than the Tribal class, the Scimitar has proved its deadliness time and time again.

Known Armaments: --6 20cm railguns set in two, 3 gun arrays --10 40cm launchers mounted in the prow --CWIS turrets mounted around the hull

Hailey Class Heavy Cruiser:

The Hailey class is basically an upgunned variant of the Scimitar, crossed with the hull of the Valley Forge. Armed with another bank of rails and the same launcher array as its smaller brother, the Hailey class is almost an admission by the Federation that it hadn’t believed that a heavy cruiser was needed in frontline combat. This view was proven wrong after initial engagements with the Sol Navy, where the Republic’s stronger command and control networks gave them an edge over the squadrons of Federation cruisers. After suffering heavier than expected casualties due to collapsed lines of command and the lack of specialized ships, the A.W. took several captured Valley Forges and reconstructed their own ships to match its capabilities.

With the added production power of captured Republic shipyards and the industrial might of the Federation working full tilt, the Aligned Navy rapidly built several proof of concept hulls. The Hailey class was introduced onto the front lines almost immediately afterward, and it quickly proved its might by demonstrating the power of a rail heavy gunboat. Many captains though are wary of the vessel, believing its chimera traits and rapid introduction could be hiding severe faults that will come back to bite them.

Known Armaments: --9 20cm railguns in three, 3 gun arrays --10 40cm prow launchers --CWIS turrets mounted around the hull

Battleships

Rama Class Battleship

Revered in ancient Hindu as one of the Avatars of Vishnu and described as 'The Perfect Man', Rama was the epitome of compassion, courage and devotion to duty. As a class, the Rama Battleships have fulfilled all these descriptions and more. Rivaled only by the Sol Republic's Mountain class, the Federation has used its Rama class as front line warships since the beginning of the Universal War. For sure, the internal technology of these ships is hardly the same as when the class was first laid down, but the hulls of these proud vessels have served well and proved themselves time and time again. Armed with the largest railguns in the Federation fleet, and protected by massive banks of monopoles, the Rama's can both give and take inordinate amounts of punishment. As if this weren't enough to cement its place as one of the greatest ship classes in history, there were many stories in the opening stages of the war where Rama class battleships went up against their technologically superior brothers and won out due to heavier hull plating and more experienced crews.

Assault Ships

Hero Class Drop Ship

Larger than a battlecruiser, the Hero class drop ships were designed as the heavy lifters of the Federation Fleet. Capable of transporting several regiments of troops or hundreds of tons of heavy equipment, the Hero class also retains the capability to launch their attack landers. Unlike some of the smaller assault vessels in the Federation Fleet, the Hero class does not have the capability to actually land on a target world, and remains a purely space bound ship.

Narwhal Class transport

The largest transport in the Aligned Worlds' Navy, the Narwhal is mainly used for bulk transport of supplies and heavy equipment (hover tanks, command vehicles and transports) and has no actual landing or assault capabilities. What it does have however is massive internal cargo holds and external hatches to move its cargo into ships capable of landing.

Lionfish Class Assault Lander

In some cases, the Hero class' landers are either too small, too lightly armored or just aren't capable of landing enough men in one spot to fulfill a required objective. In others, large amounts of heavy equipment is needed at the front lines with the initial strike force. When this happens, the Federation brass calls upon the Lionfish to do what the rest of the fleet can't. Slightly larger than the majority of destroyers, the Lionfish is capable of landing three squadrons of heavy tanks at once, or an entire regiment of men. In addition, its heavier than normal prow armor and defensive systems mean that the assault ship almost always makes it from orbit to the ground, a boast that most other assault ships fall short on.
